Best recurring characters on Martin that weren't played by Martin Lawrence
Everyone knows Martin Lawrence has a real talent for playing multiple characters. Long before Michael B. Jordan took on both Smoke and Stack in Ryan Coogler's Sinners, Lawrence brought Mama Payne, Sheneneh, Otis, Jerome, and others to life in the same sitcom, Martin. That’s impressive.
Martin Payne met all kinds of characters throughout the show. Some were easy for him to get along with, while others pushed back against his bold personality. Most of the recurring characters were played by Martin himself, but a few were played by other actors. Here are the best of them.
Bruh Man (Fif 'Flo)
Played by: Reginald Ballard
Appeared in: 13 episodes
Bruh Man was the mooching neighbor who lived on the fifth floor of Martin's apartment building (although he'd only hold up four fingers every time he said 'fif flo'). He ate Martin's food and helped himself to whatever was in Martin's apartment.
Hustleman
Played by: Tracy Morgan
Appeared in: 7 episodes
This is one of Morgan's earliest roles. The character sold anything and everything illegally to make a profit. He truly knew how to hustle.
Nipsey
Played by: Sean Lampkin
Appeared in: 28 episodes
Nipsey was the local bar owner who interacted with Martin and his friends whenever they visited.
Rev. Leon Lonnie Love
Played by: David Alan Grier
Appeared in: 4 episodes
Although he appeared in fewer than five episodes, Rev. Leon Lonnie Love didn't live by the words he spoke. He was sneaky and lusted after women. Leon is also Pam's cousin.
Ms. Geri
Played by: Jeri Gray
Appeared in: 11 episodes
Martin had a smart mouth, and no matter how big or small the role of a woman character was on the show, they stood up to him, including Ms. Geri. She worked different jobs, but always found time to throw hands!
Shanise McGillicuddy
Played by: Maura McDade
Appeared in: 7 episodes
For the majority of the series, Cole was dating Big Shirley, who had multiple kids and treated him like an annoying child. In the last season, he finally found real love with Shanise, who was just as gullible as he was.
