Remember the Martin episode where he ends up in jail because of an old friend?
Real friends don't risk your freedom. You'll never worry about them putting you in situations that could harm your life or career. In the episode "Credit Card Blues," Martin realizes his old friend Ricky Thompson is still the same 'ol Slick Rick.
In the opening scene, everyone is at Martin's apartment waiting for Cole so they can get pizza. When Cole arrives, he tells Martin and Tommy that Ricky is back in town. The guy was known for trying to sell people stuff; he just wanted money.
Tommy asks where Ricky is, and Cole surprises them by opening the door with Ricky standing there. When the group invites him to eat, he suggests a fancy restaurant instead and says it's his treat, adding, "The last few years have been good to me."
"The neighborhood sure has changed since I've left." The next day, he wanted Martin to go shopping with him. You might think this was just two old friends hanging out, but he really wanted Martin to drive because he didn't have a car. His excuse was that his Benz was still in Los Angeles and he didn't want to rent a limo.
After picking up items at another store, Martin and Ricky stop at a jewelry store to look at expensive watches. Martin acts like his goofy self in the store, which makes Ricky tell him to chill. Clearly Martin is just joking around, but Ricky doesn't want unnecessary attention because he knows the credit card he's using belongs to someone else.
Ricky claims to be in the music industry, calling himself "the next Berry Gordy." The woman calls the police after realizing there was another name on the credit card, which gets them both arrested.
The crew needs $1,000 to bail Martin out, and after combining their money, they get the other $500 from Sheneneh.
