No, Garrett Morris didn't leave Martin for another job. He was fired.

Garrett Morris was a legend before he even stepped on the set of Martin. He made history as the first Black cast member (and an original member) on Saturday Night Live. So, when he joined the cast of Martin Lawrence's new show in 1992, his presence, no matter how significant the role would be, was a boost in general. On the series, Morris played Stan Winters, the slickster in charge of WZUP, always looking for an easy way out.

He was Martin's boss in seasons 1-2 and a regular cast member; however, his role was reduced to a single guest-starring appearance in season 3. In the season 2 episode "Hoedown in Motown," Stan sells the station to avoid his troubles with the IRS. He owes $20,000, money he clearly didn't have, and if he did, would never give to the government.

Do you remember the scene of Stan in a hospital bed? Yeah, Morris was actually in the hospital. He was shot during an attempted robbery and couldn’t film several episodes due to multiple surgeries. Lawrence, the lead and executive producer, wanted to take the show in a new direction, so Morris was fired.

That was the last time viewers saw Stan until a small appearance in the season 3 episode "C.R.E.A.M.", where he and Martin invest in a restaurant that was too much to handle. After that, Morris's character disappeared completely.

Although the actor was angry and confused by the decision, he chose to remain positive, focusing on the bright side that he was still alive. Morris would go on to star as Uncle Junior in The Jamie Foxx Show.
